As part of the 2011 school evaluation parents commented that they would like more online information regarding their child's progress at school and students would like to showcase their achievements to the wider community. An initiative by the staff at Wamberal PS has been the creation of blogs.
What is a blog? A blog is an abbreviation of weblog which are personal websites that can be easily updated and often look like online diaries which include pictures and videos.
The school has recently launched three micro websites which include a blog. These micro websites include photo galleries, useful internet resources for parents, class notes and a blog. Staff will regularly update blogs with positive student accomplishments and general class work. Parents are encouraged to make comment and praise their child for their high standards. These blogs are maintained by members of staff and parents can ask questions or make comment but all users need to provide their full name and an email address. Also all comments are scrutinised before going live onto the blog. These blogs have been created in line with Department of Education and Communities guidelines and all communication needs to follows protocols as defined by the social networking policy found at www.schools.nsw.edu.au
The effectiveness of these blogs will be regularly evaluated but please feel free to make comment regarding anything you would like to see as part of these blogs.
